The Europa League quarter-finals will also get underway on Thursday night and features this all-Italian affair between AC Milan and Roma when the two Serie A sides meet at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza for this 1st leg tie with AC Milan currently enjoying a purple patch of form which has produced seven wins on the trot in all competitions, while Roma head into this clash on the back of a 1-0 home win against local rivals Lazio, so both teams will be backing themselves to gain a 1st leg lead here.

Five wins on the domestic front in the Italian top flight against the likes of Lazio, Empoli, Verona, Fiorentina and Lecce have been further complemented by home and away victories over Czech Republic side Slavia Prague with a resounding 7-3 win on aggregate in the Round of last 16 in the Europa League.

Previously, AC Milan had qualified for the group stage of the Champions League where Stefano Pioli's side finished in third place in Group F, narrowly edged out by French Ligue 1 outfit PSG only by goal difference, so AC Milan have dropped down into the knockout rounds of the Europa League as a result.

AC Milan are unbeaten in their last eight home games in all competitions which includes an earlier 3-1 victory over Roma in Serie A in mid-January which prompted the sacking of former Roma manager, Jose Mourinho.

Roma have since staged a recovery since that 3-1 mauling at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza back in January as the visitors have been handed just two further defeats in their subsequent 16 matches in all competitions and having collected 11 wins in the process, the visitors will also be confident about their chances here on Thursday night.

Daniele De Rossi has taken over the reins at the Stadio Olimpico and has overseen four of these 11 recent wins on the road at Al Shabab (club friendly), Salernitana, Frosinone and Monza in the Italian top flight and he'll no doubt be eager to avenge Roma's earlier 3-1 loss to AC Milan in this upcoming 1st leg tie in the Europa League.

However, recent results in the Europa League have been something of a mixed bag as Roma have captured just three wins from their previous seven ties in this competition which consist of victories over Sheriff, Feyenoord (on penalties) and Brighton, the latter being a comprehensive 4-0 win at home.

Results on the road at Europa League level though have been poor, winning just twice in their previous 14 away ties.
