Spurs vs Everton Preview

Tottenham started this season's Premier League campaign with a solid point gained on the road last weekend as Spurs held Leicester City to a 1-1 draw at the King Power Stadium and the north London club now return to their home surroundings of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium where they'll take on an Everton outfit who were dealt a heavy 3-0 loss at home by Brighton last weekend.

Tottenham narrowly missed out on a top four finish at the end of last season as they were pipped at the post by a two-point margin by Unai Emery's Aston Villa and Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou will probably point to a season defining four-match losing streak towards the end of the season which ultimately cost Tottenham a Champions League spot.

Everton were dealt an uncharacteristically heavy defeat at Goodison Park in their opening fixture of this season's Premier League by Brighton in a comprehensive 3-0 loss as The Toffees were unable to continue their good work from the end of last season.

Sean Dyche's men had previously slipped to just two defeats in their final nine league matches of last term whilst also collecting five wins in the process which ultimately proved to be enough to save the merseyside club from the drop once again.

Wins collected against Burnley, Nottingham Forest, Liverpool, Brentford and Sheffield United, all of which also saw Everton keep clean sheets, were an impressive end to their season but it should be noted that all of these five wins were recorded on home soil at Goodison Park.

However, despite a four-match winning streak earlier in the season on their travels with wins registered at West Ham, Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and Burnley respectively, The Toffees subsequently failed to win any of their following 11 outings on the road.

Seven defeats within this period along with failing to score in five of these 11 away games suggest Everton will do well to gain even a point against a performing Tottenham outfit in their own backyard here this Saturday.
