Southampton were handed a fourth defeat on the trot last weekend in the Premier League when The Saints suffered an expected loss at Anfield where they came off second-best against Liverpool in a 3-1 defeat, leaving the south coast hosts bottom of the table and now a significant 14 points adrift of safety.

Wolves continue to hover above the relegation zone where the west midlands club possess a useful looking six-point buffer between themselves and both Ipswich Town and Leicester City, thanks to picking up recent wins against Aston Villa and Bournemouth respectively.

Southampton have just two league wins to show for their troubles within their total of 28 matches played to date so far in this season's campaign but having lost 23 games as well, the hosts have been resigned to relegation back down to the Championship for some time now.

With just one win from their last 18 matches along with being handed no fewer than 15 defeats in the process, Southampton are in wretched form and they remain on course to be one of the worst sides to ever participate in a Premier League season.

In addition, Ivan Juric's side have now lost each of their last eight home games on the trot in the English top flight which does not bode well for this upcoming encounter against Wolves on Saturday,

Wolves have had to contend with struggles of their own but at least the west midlands club have picked up the two aforementioned wins against Aston Villa and Bournemouth in recent times which have helped Vítor Pereira's side to keep the bottom three clubs at arms length.

Even so, despite also picking up points in draws with Tottenham and Everton, Wolves have also been handed six defeats within their last 10 matches overall in the Premier League, three of which have been dealt out to the visitors at Newcastle United, Chelsea and Liverpool respectively.

The bigger picture shows the west midlands outfit have managed to capture just four wins from their previous 16 matches overall in the English top flight along with losing 10 of these games as well, but such has been the dramatic decline of Southampton's form this season, that Wolves should still have enough quality about them to pick up all three points here down on the south coast.

Wolves have absolutely dominated Southampton in previous exchanges between the two clubs as the west midlands visitors have won the last six encounters on the trot and given The Saints' continued poor form, there is little to suggest that Wolves will not once again get the better of Southampton this Saturday, despite having to travel to St Mary's Stadium, where the visitors can pull further away from the relegation zone with a win.
