Sheffield United vs Everton Preview

Sheffield United will play host to early fellow strugglers Everton in this season's Premier League in Saturday lunchtime's clash at Bramall Lane with both teams not only looking to pick up their first league win of the season but also avoid a fourth defeat on the trot as well.

The early warning signs are there for all to see at Sheffield United as Paul Heckingbottom's side have failed to pick up a single point from their opening three league games upon their return to the Premier League following automatic promotion from the Championship at the end of the last campaign.

Defeats to Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and understandably, Manchester City, have dumped Sheffield United at the bottom of the early Premier League table while recent results have also been poor as The Blades have picked up just one win from their previous eight matches overall.

That win was in pre-season friendly with League One side, Derby County, but six defeats within this eight-match period suggests this upcoming clash with Everton will be no walk in the park for the Yorkshire hosts, especially as they have now lost their last four home games on the trot in all competitions.

Onto Everton, and The Toffees find themselves in a similar predicament as that of their upcoming hosts, Sheffield United, as Sean Dyche's side are also yet to pick up a point after their opening three league games of this new season along with slipping to three defeats on the trot in the early stages of this new campaign.

Defeats at the hands of Fulham, Aston Villa and Wolves were bad enough but to make matters worse, these are all teams that Everton would have fancied taking points off and these three losses have resulted in Everton sitting second from bottom in the Premier League table.

It therefore looks like being another long and tough battle against relegation again for the merseyside visitors who only just avoided relegation by a slender two-point margin at the end of last season and having managed to capture just two wins from their last 14 matches in the English top flight, an away win here for Everton is by no means guaranteed.

Both Sheffield United and Everton have produced a poor start to this new Premier League season and both managers will be under pressure to start getting results for their respective teams sooner rather than later.

Sheffield United are getting well acquainted with the harsh realities of the Premier League upon their return from the Championship while Everton have been unable to shake off last season's disappointing results despite narrowly avoiding the drop.

Everton have won three of the last five meetings against Sheffield United though and The Toffees might just sneak a narrow win here as well in what is expected to be a low-scoring affair.
