Sheffield United vs Brighton Preview

Sheffield United kept their slim hopes of Premier League survival alive last weekend with an impressive 3-1 win away from home at fellow strugglers Luton Town which ended a dismal seven-match winless sequence, while Brighton slipped to a 2-1 loss away from home at high-flying Tottenham which resulted in The Seagulls dropping down the Premier League table to ninth place.

Sheffield United had previously suffered five defeats within their preceding seven league games with losses incurred against the likes of Chelsea, Luton Town, Manchester City, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa respectively and although The Blades picked up points by way of stalemates with Aston Villa and West Ham, the defeats far outweighed the two points gained.

League wins have been hard to come by for Chris Wilder's Sheffield United side this season as the Yorkshire club have managed to pick up just the three wins in total throughout this top flight campaign but having also lost 17 of their total of 24 matches played to date, Sheffield United look like having another tough test on their hands this Saturday.

In addition, The Blades have lost eight of their 12 home games so far this term as well.

Brighton were handed a second away defeat on the trot when they lost 2-1 away from home at Tottenham last weekend which followed a previous heavy 4-0 loss away from home at strugglers, Luton Town, but The Seagulls did secure a heavy win of their own recently when they claimed the bragging rights in their M23 derby game against Crystal Palace.

However, although overall results in the Premier League have produced a mixed bag of returns for Brighton, the underlying fact still remains that Roberto de Zerbi's side have only been handed three defeats within their last 10 matches overall which were dealt out to the south coast club by the likes of Arsenal, Luton Town and Tottenham.

The Seagulls have also collected wins against Brentford, Tottenham and Crystal Palace within these last 10 games but there's plenty of room for improvement for de Zerbi's side particularly away from home where the south coast side have registered just one win from their last 10 outings on the road.

In addition, Brighton have lost four out of their last six games on their travels and these have contributed to Brighton finding themselves 11 points adrift of fifth placed Aston Villa ahead of these weekend fixtures in the English top flight.

Sheffield United v Brighton Verdict

The previous meeting between Sheffield United and Brighton resulted in a high-scoring encounter in the FC Cup towards the end of January which saw Brighton run out 5-2 winners and The Seagulls perhaps look the more likely to take all three points here as well.
