Newcastle vs Arsenal Preview

Newcastle United's winless run in the Premier League was extended to five games overall last weekend when they were handed a 2-1 defeat away from home at Chelsea, while Arsenal had to settle for a point in a 2-2 draw at home with Liverpool, so both sides will be keen to get back on the winning trail on Saturday lunchtime.

Newcastle United have dropped down the Premier League table to a disappointing 12th place after failing to win any of their previous five games and to make matters worse, Eddie Howe's side have also slipped to three defeats within these five games as well.

Losses at the hands of Fulham, Brighton and Chelsea have outweighed the recent points that The Magpies have collected in draws with Manchester City and Everton and goals have also been in short supply as three of their last five games have resulted in Under 2.5 goals as well.

The bigger picture shows Newcastle United have registered just four wins from their previous 12 matches overall in the Premier League, only two of which were achieved on home soil at their St James' Park with victories gained over Southampton and Tottenham, but results at home overall have been promising as the north-east club have lost just once in their last 12 games.

Arsenal won't be hitting the panic button just yet but The Gunners now trail the Premier League leaders, Manchester city, by a five-point margin ahead of Saturday lunchtime's clash against Newcastle United having lost 2-0 away from home at Bournemouth along with last week's 2-2 draw at home with Liverpool.

Prior to their loss down on the south coast, Arsenal had produced an encouraging start to this new Premier League campaign as Mikel Arteta's side put together a solid looking seven-game unbeaten sequence which consisted of five wins and two draws.

Victories gained over Wolves, Aston Villa, Tottenham, Leicester City and Southampton respectively have once again placed Arsenal amongst the early contenders for at least a European spot for next season but the London club will really need to stamp their authority on this upcoming fixture if they're to continue pushing title rivals, Manchester City.

The bigger picture looks promising for The Gunners as the visitors have slipped to just one defeat in their previous 15 matches overall in the English top flight, picking up no fewer than 11 wins in the process, so Arsenal's prospects look pretty promising for all three points at St James' Park on Saturday lunchtime.
