Liverpool picked up a third win on the trot in the Premier League last Sunday when they overcame a spirited Southampton outfit at St Marys Stadium with a 3-2 win down on the south coast which in turn has helped The Reds to a healthy eight-point cushion over their second placed visitors, Manchester City.

Manchester City by contrast slipped to a third consecutive loss last weekend in the English top flight when The Citizens were comprehensively beaten 4-0 by Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium, leaving the visitors playing catch-up in the title race.

Manchester City's woes continued during the week in the Champions League when The Citizens played host to Dutch side Feyenoord, and everything seemed to be heading in the right direction for Pep Guardiola's side to halt their previous five-game losing streak in all competitions.

Indeed, City cruised to a 3-0 lead which they held onto with just a little over 15 minutes remaining, but somehow contrived to be held to a 3-3 draw by their Dutch visitors, thus extending Pep's side to six games without a win overall.

That draw would most certainly would have felt like a defeat for Sunday's upcoming visitors as they now make their way to merseyside where they will attempt to not only stall Liverpool's progress but to also try and find a way back to winning form as well.

On the domestic front, Manchester City have lost their last three Premier League matches on the trot, being handed losses by the likes of Bournemouth, Brighton and Tottenham - teams that City would have usually devoured with gusto but now find themselves a significant eight points adrift of their hosts.

Two of these three recent defeats were inflicted upon Pep Guardiola's side on their travels which may not bode well for this upcoming visit to Anfield.
