Chelsea vs Luton Town Preview

Chelsea will be desperate to get themselves off the mark in the Premier League by collecting all three points against newly promoted Luton Town when the two sides meet at Stamford Bridge on Friday night while Luton Town will have similar aspirations as both clubs sit in the bottom six of the early Premier League standings.

Much has changed at the top of the administrative end of Chelsea as new boss, Mauricio Pochettino, has taken over the reigns after Frank Lampard's ill-fated second stint at The Blues but the same old story has unfolded in the early stages of this new English top flight campaign for the London club as they have picked up just one point from their opening two games of this new term.

A creditable and promising 1-1 draw at home to Liverpool on the opening day of the season gave early encouragement but Chelsea then slipped to a heavy 3-1 loss away at West Ham in one of London derbies this season, making it now just one win from their last 14 league matches in the Premier League.

Results at Stamford Bridge haven't been much better as The Blues have failed to win any of their last eight home games but the visit of Luton Town must surely represent a golden opportunity for Chelsea to notch a win here.

Luton Town's home game with Burnley on the weekend was postponed due to extensive improvement of their Kenilworth Road ground not being completed in time and The Hatters have to make do with playing away games in the early stages upon their return to the English top flight which is far from ideal especially for a newly promoted club.

Luton's only game so far in this season's new Premier League campaign ended in disaster as Rob Edwards' side capitulated to a heavy 4-1 thrashing away from home at Brighton on the opening day of the season, so it will be interesting to see how The Hatters fare at Stamford Bridge on Friday night.

The bigger picture shows Luton Town have lost just three of their previous 24 matches in all competitions although the majority of these games were in last season's successful Championship campaign which resulted in promotion via the play-offs.

However, results away from home have been a little underwhelming in recent times as the visitors have won just three of their last 10 games on the road, one of which was on penalties in the play-off final, so Luton could be up against it at Stamford Bridge.
