Premier League, played Sunday, August 13th, 2023
Here is our Chelsea v Liverpool tip and game preview. Based on our detailed analysis of statistics listed below and other factors, we predicted both teams to score in this game, under 2.5 goals, and a tie. Our confidence in this pick was high relative to other picks.
In arguably the most attractive fixture in this opening weekend of the new Premier League season, Chelsea will play host to Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon with both teams no doubt keen to lay down a marker in this early stage of the new term.
Last season was a campaign to quickly forget for Chelsea as they produced their worst finish in the Premier League for over 20 years as the London club were left floundering in 12th place in the standings after capturing just the one win in their last 12 matches of last term which came in the form of a 3-1 win away from home at Bournemouth, but they also slipped to seven defeats as well.
Chelsea owner, Todd Boehly, made the puzzling decision of bringing back former manager, Frank Lampard, into the Stamford Bridge hot-seat and it's fair to say his gamble back-fired in monumental fashion as The Blues gained just one win during his 11-game second tenure at the club.
With Lampard nowhere in sight and former Tottenham and Southampton manager, Mauricio Pochettino installed at the helm, Chelsea now have reason to be quietly confident about this upcoming campaign and although the win market still looks risky, six of Chelsea's last 10 games overall resulted in both teams scoring.
Liverpool also produced a disappointing campaign by their standards but although a fifth place finish wasn't the end of the world, Reds boss, Jurgen Klopp, will be demanding more from his squad this time around.
Liverpool still remained very tough to beat on home soil at Anfield as The Reds were dealt just the one defeat throughout the whole of last season's Premier League campaign, but results away from home told a very different story as the Merseysiders lost no fewer than eight of their 19 away games last term.
To put this into perspective, Liverpool finished runners-up in the 2021/22 season having lost just twice on the road all season, but despite producing disappointing returns on the road, Liverpool did finish the season with a five-match unbeaten run on their travels which included wins at Leeds United, West Ham and Leicester City.
Again, the straight win market may hold a fair amount of risk where Jurgen Klopp's side are concerned but the visitors stand a decent chance of hitting the back of the net on Sunday afternoon.
Chelsea v Liverpool Verdict
Each of the previous six meetings between Chelsea and Liverpool have resulted in a draw, the last four ending in 0-0 stalemates, and although another draw cannot be ruled out here, both teams look likely to score in what is expected to be an entertaining encounter which could see the teams cancelling each other out.
Therefore, our main bet will be Both Teams To Score Yes @ 1.57
Other side bets worth considering:
Draw @ 3.40
Correct score: 1-1 @ 7.00
