Chelsea vs Brighton Preview

Chelsea return to the more familiar surroundings of Stamford Bridge with some relief having found themselves on the end of a heavy 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Newcastle United last weekend which has resulted in The Blues picking up just one win from their last five matches overall in the Premier League, while Brighton ended their previous winless run of six games by beating Nottingham Forest 3-2 at the City Ground.

Chelsea have yet to really get going so far in this campaign under the reign of new manager, Mauricio Pochettino, as the London club have collected a meagre total of four wins from their opening 13 games of this Premier League season and inconsistency has been a large part of Chelsea's problems to date.

Interestingly, only one of these four wins have been achieved on home soil at Stamford Bridge which came in the early stages of the season by way of a 3-0 home win against newly promoted Luton Town while wins on the road at Fulham, Burnley and Tottenham have made up the remaining victories.

The goals market could appeal here though as five of Chelsea's last 10 matches have resulted in Over 2.5 goals along with the hosts conceding in each of their last six games as well.

Brighton will feel better about themselves having ended their previously worrying six-match winless run in the Premier League with a 3-2 win away from home at Nottingham Forest last weekend and although The Seagulls slipped to losses against Aston Villa and Manchester City, the south coast club had also picked up points in draws with Liverpool, Fulham, Everton and Sheffield United.

Brighton had earlier produced an explosive start to their top flight campaign as The Seagulls had collected an impressive five wins out of their opening six games of the new term which saw the south coast club pick up wins against Luton Town 4-1, Wolves 4-1, Newcastle United 3-1, Manchester United 3-1 and a 3-1 home win against Bournemouth, so not only did Brighton produce wins but the goals were also flowing.

However, whilst the wins have deserted Brighton in recent times, the goals have continued to be present on a regular basis as no fewer than 10 of Brighton's 13 games so far this season have resulted in Over 2.5 goals and this trend could well continue at Stamford Bridge especially with a wobbling Chelsea outfit playing host.

Chelsea have been far from convincing this season under Pochettino to date but whilst The Blues continue to fail to keep clean sheets along with Brighton's attacking and sometimes cavalier attitude, the goals market looks extremely promising for what should be an entertaining clash.
