Burnley vs Tottenham Preview

Newly promoted, Burnley, will entertain Tottenham at Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon with the Lancashire hosts still in search of their first win of the season in the Premier League following early back-to-back defeats while Tottenham have made a positive start to their new campaign and remain unbeaten after their first three games of the new term.

After securing automatic promotion from the Championship in emphatic fashion at the end of last season, the harsh realities of English top flight football have brought Vincent Kompany's side back down to earth very quickly as The Clarets have suffered early season defeats at the hands of Manchester City and Aston Villa respectively.

Not only were both defeats inflicted upon Burnley on home soil at their Turf Moor ground but the hosts also conceded three goals in each of these losses and although the fixture computer have been kind to Burnley by giving them three home games on the trot to start this season, the upcoming visit of Tottenham is likely to be another tough test for Burnley.

Results at Turf Moor have been generally impressive for the hosts as they have lost just three of their previous 31 games in their own backyard but it should be noted that the majority of these matches were in the Championship and as we all know, the Premier League is a totally different and unforgiving entity altogether.

The appointment of Australian manager, Ange Postecoglou, was perhaps a bit of an unexpected decision by Tottenham but nevertheless, the Aussie has settled in well in north London as Spurs still remain unbeaten after their opening three games of this new top flight season, having picked up seven points from these three matches.

An opening day 2-2 draw away from home at Brentford was a fair result and Tottenham built upon this solid point by posting back-to-back wins against Manchester United and Bournemouth, both wins being by 2-0 margins and the clean sheets will have pleased Postecoglou no doubt.

Spurs did slip up in the 2nd round of the EFL Cup on Tuesday night, losing on penalties to fellow Premier League side, Fulham, but this won't faze the north London visitors too much as the bigger prize of a possible top four finish this season will realistically be their ultimate ambition for this campaign.

If Tottenham are to achieve this though, the visitors will need to improve upon a poor sequence of results away from home which have seen Spurs pick up just two wins from their previous 14 outings on the road overall.

Burnley have made a disappointing start upon their return to the Premier League while Spurs have produced some promising displays of late and the visitors look in good shape to take the spoils here this Saturday as well.
