Brentford were dealt a fifth defeat in seven games in all competitions over the weekend in the 3rd round of the FA Cup as The Bees suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat at home to Championship outfit Plymouth Argyle, and the London club face another tricky evening at the office when Manchester City visit the Gtech Community Stadium on Tuesday night.

Manchester City had no such problems against League Two opposition in the 3rd round of the FA Cup on Saturday as Pep Guardiola's side thrashed Salford City 8-0 at the Etihad Stadium in what was a particularly merciless performance by The Citizens.

It's back to the bread and butter of the Premier League on Tuesday night for both sides and Brentford will be eager to halt a miserable sequence of results as the London hosts have managed to capture just one win from their last seven matches in all competitions.

Three of these recent five losses have been dealt out to Thomas Frank's side in the Premier League as Brentford have succumbed to losses at the hands of Chelsea 2-1, Nottingham Forest 2-0 and Arsenal 3-1 respectively.

Brentford had previously put together an impressive and solid looking eight-match unbeaten start to the season at home, picking up seven wins, but The Bees have lost their last two home games on the trot.

Manchester City collected a third win on the trot in all competitions on the weekend as The Citizens inflicted a particularly harsh lesson upon their League Two opposition, Salford City, in the 3rd round of the FA Cup by recording an 8-0 mauling of their hapless visitors.

Having previously managed to register just the single win in their preceding 13 matches in all competitions, Manchester City have shown glimpses of their mercurial best in recent weeks following victories gained over Leicester City and West Ham in the Premier League as well as the aforementioned win in the FA Cup on the weekend.

However, the damage has appeared to already been done in terms of challenging for the Premier League title this season as the visitors find themselves a significant 12 points behind the league leaders, Liverpool, but a Champions League spot still looks to be within City's grasp as they trail fourth placed Chelsea by just a two-point margin.

Pep Guardiola will therefore be urging his players on to improve upon a poor recent run of results in the English top flight which have yielded just three wins from their last 11 matches.
