Bournemouth will be keen to avoid a third defeat on the trot in the Premier League on Monday night when The Cherries play host to fellow south coast outfit Southampton after being handed back-to-back defeats, while Southampton have yet to record their first win of this new English top flight season having slipped to four defeats and gaining just one point thanks to a draw.

Bournemouth had previously produced an encouraging start to this new Premier League season as The Cherries had picked up points in draws with Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United, both involving 1-1 draws along with picking up all three points with a 3-2 win away from home at Everton.

The latter win at Goodison Park was a particularly morale-boosting victory as Andoni Iraola's side found themselves 2-0 down but the south coast side stormed back to take all three points in a memorable comeback win.

However, two defeats on the trot in their subsequent games against Chelsea and Liverpool have pegged back Bournemouth's promising start but the hosts do hold home advantage for this upcoming encounter where the bigger picture shows Bournemouth have lost just twice in their previous nine games overall, three of which have resulted in draws.

The goals market appeals though as six of Bournemouth's last 10 home games have resulted in both teams scoring.

Southampton halted their four-match losing streak in the Premier League last weekend with a 1-1 draw at home against fellow promoted side Ipswich Town at St Mary's Stadium following a disastrous start to their return to the top flight.

The Saints had previously slipped to four losses on the bounce as Russell Martin's side suffered defeats at the hands of Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, Brentford and Manchester United respectively which has placed manager Russell Martin and his side in a precarious position in the table where Southampton sit third from bottom.

Despite picking up that point against Ipswich Town though last time out, Southampton have now failed to win any of their last 18 matches in the Premier League overall, drawing five and losing the other 13 games.

In addition, Saints bring a winless run of nine games on the road into this upcoming encounter at the Vitality Stadium which consists of two draws and seven losses, so the visitors may well be grateful to settle for a point on Monday night, while the goals market looks fairly promising as five out of Southampton's last nine away games in the top flight has produced goals for both sides.
