Aston Villa returned to winning ways in the Premier League on Wednesday night when the west midlands outfit registered a convincing 3-1 home win against Brentford after having had to endure a dismal five-match winless run in the English top flight.

Southampton's woes continued and indeed worsened in midweek in the English top flight as the south coast side were handed a 5-1 humiliation at home by in-form Chelsea, making it three defeats within their last four games overall.

That rare highlight came in the shape of a 1-0 home win against Everton but poor results away from home have contributed to Southampton's current plight as the visitors have slipped to six defeats within their opening seven outings on the road.
