A fourth defeat on the trot in League One last Saturday in a 1-0 loss away from home at Shrewsbury Town meant Carlisle United remain firmly rooted to the bottom of the third tier table and now a significant 16 points adrift of fifth from bottom side Cambridge United and safety ahead of a reduced fixture list this weekend, while Stevenage will be desperate to return to winning ways following two defeats on the trot.

Carlisle United are almost certainly facing the drop back down to League Two after enduring a wretched sequence of results which has brought The Cumbrians just the single win from their last 13 matches overall, that coming in the form of a narrow 1-0 win away from home at fellow strugglers, Burton Albion, but having also been handed a total of 12 defeats within this period as well, the north-east club look doomed to relegation.

Six of these 12 defeats have been inflicted upon Carlisle United on home soil at Brunton Park and of these six victories, five of these have also produced three goals or more so the prospects of an away win here on Saturday plus a few goals in Stevenage's favour look highly promising for Steve Evans' side.

However, Stevenage have a golden opportunity to not only return to winning ways this Saturday at bottom placed Carlisle United, but the visitors can also overhaul current sixth placed club Oxford United with all three points at Brunton Park as The U's are not in action this weekend.

If they are to achieve this, Stevenage will have to improve upon a disappointing recent sequence of results which have bought the visitors just two wins from their previous 10 matches overall in League One which have come in the form of victories at home against Wycombe Wanderers and Cambridge United respectively.

In addition, Stevenage have won just two of their last eight outings on the road but the visitors should be well motivated to take the spoils against a poor Carlisle United outfit here.
