FA Cup Final Preview

Another Manchester derby will unfold this Saturday afternoon but this time it will be played out in the nation's capital in the shape of this year's FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium as Manchester City seek ‘the double' after securing the Premier League title last weekend, while Manchester United have one more opportunity to claim not only some long-awaited silverware but also a place in Europe for next season.

A 3-1 home win against West Ham helped Pep Guardiola's side to a seventh win on the trot in all competitions and more importantly, the Premier League title as City once again pipped Arsenal at the post in the race to be crowned English champions, but City will be keen to rub United's noses in it even further with a win over the Red Devils on Wembley Stadium's hallowed turf on Saturday afternoon.

Manchester City recorded a 1-0 win against Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final before embarking upon what proved to be a title-winning six league games on the trot with victories gained over Brighton, Nottingham Forest, Wolves, Fulham, Tottenham and West Ham respectively.

In the previous meeting between the two Manchester clubs back in early March, it was City who prevailed with a 3-1 home win at the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester United registered back-to-back wins to end their Premier League campaign on a slightly more positive note with victories collected against Newcastle United and Brighton respectively but nevertheless, it was a season to forget for United by their previous lofty standards as Erik ten Hag's side finished in eighth place at the end of the Premier League season.

Such has been the decline of the once all-dominating Manchester United side that this season's eighth place finish is their worst ever placing in the history of the Premier League but the side have one more chance to redeem themselves at Wembley on Saturday afternoon.

It will be no easy task though, as United have managed to pick up just four wins out of their last 11 matches in all competitions which includes a win on penalties against Championship club Coventry City in the semi-final of the FA Cup along with a previous win in the Premier League against Sheffield United.

In addition though, Manchester United have also slipped to three defeats within these previous 11 games, losing at the hands of Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Arsenal respectively.

Previous history between Manchester City and Manchester United suggests it will be City who will prevail here at Wembley Stadium as Pep Guardiola's side have won six out of the last seven meetings but goals for both sides have occurred in five of these seven meetings as well.
