Wolves vs Blackpool Preview

Premier League side, Wolves, will play host to League One visitors, Blackpool, when the two teams meet in the 2nd round of this season's EFL Cup with both teams looking to improve upon their early season fortunes with a decent cup run in this competition.

Wolves had made a disastrous start to their new Premier League season as the west midlands club had been handed early back-to-back defeats in the English top flight to Manchester United and Brighton, the latter being a heavy 4-1 loss at home to the south coast side.

Wolves can consider themselves extremely hard done by though with the 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford as they were denied a blatant penalty but they did receive some compensation in the form of a 1-0 win away from home at Goodison Park against Everton in Saturday's Premier League fixture.

The hosts have now lost twice in their last eight matches in all competitions and the west midlands outfit are starting to look a much better prospect under new manager, Gary O'Neil, but goals may be in short supply in this upcoming EFL Cup clash.

Blackpool suffered relegation at the end of last season's Championship campaign but The Seasiders have produced a promising start to life back in League One in the early stages of this season as the visitors have lost just once in their opening six games of this new term overall.

The Lancashire outfit had previously picked up a 2-0 home win against Burton Albion on the opening day of the third tier league season and was then followed up with a decent 2-0 win away from home at fellow League One side, Derby County, in the 1st round of this season's EFL Cup.

However, three 0-0 draws on the trot followed with stalemates shared with Exeter City, Port Vale and Leyton Orient while on Saturday, Blackpool were dealt a heavy 3-0 loss on the road at Lincoln City, and The Seasiders hit the road again on Tuesday night at Molineux.

The narrow win at Everton on the weekend will give Wolves a much needed lift ahead of this midweek EFL Cup tie but this could be a low-scoring tie with a Blackpool outfit who have kept five clean sheets in their opening six games of this new season.

However, Wolves should have enough to come out on top here, perhaps by a narrow 2-0 margin.
