West Brom vs Leeds Preview

West Brom will be looking to produce more of the same form which brought The Baggies all three points in last week's opening game in the Championship where they registered a 3-1 win away from home at QPR, while Leeds United were held to an entertaining and high-scoring 3-3 draw at home by Championship newcomers, Portsmouth, last weekend.

Previously, West Brom had been tumbled out of the Championship play-off semi-finals at the end of last season by the eventual winners, Southampton, who recorded a decisive 3-1 win against the west midlands club to progress to the final, and overall form towards the end of last season's campaign left a lot to be desired by Carlos Corberan's side.

Indeed, The Baggies certainly belied their play-off status as the hosts managed to gain just one win in their final six games of last term which came in the shape of a 3-0 home win against Preston NE but West Brom were also dealt four defeats within this period as well.

Defeats at the hands of Sunderland, Leicester City, Sheffield Wednesday and Southampton suggest it may be more prudent to delve into the goals market for this upcoming encounter at The Hawthorns, as five of West Brom's last 10 games overall in the English second tier have resulted in both teams scoring.

Leeds United were certainly involved in a game where both teams scored last weekend in their season opener against Portsmouth at Elland Road as the first home game of the season unfolded into a six-goal classic as the two teams shared a point apiece after a 3-3 draw.

Leeds United went one step better than their upcoming hosts, West Brom, at the end of last season as the Yorkshire club made it through to the Championship play-off final at Wembley Stadium but they too eventually came a cropper against Southampton, losing 1-0 and having their Premier League dreams dashed for another season.

The visitors had previously registered a comprehensive 4-0 rout of Norwich City away from home at Carrow Road but overall results overall towards the end of last season's second tier campaign were also pretty disappointing from a team that were well placed in the play-off pack.

Leeds managed to collect just two wins in their last 10 matches overall in the Championship which came by way of wins against Middlesbrough and the aforementioned Norwich City but the Yorkshire outfit also slipped to five defeats within this period as well.

Goals may feature again this weekend though as Leeds United have scored in nine of their last 11 away games in the English second tier.
