Portsmouth slipped to a second defeat on the trot in the Championship when the south coast side were dealt a 1-0 loss in midweek against visitors, Millwall, leaving Pompey in a lowly 21st place position in the English second tier table and just two points above the relegation zone heading into this weekend's action.

Burnley had to make do with sharing the spoils in their top three clash against the league leaders, Leeds United, on Monday night in a 0-0 stalemate at Turf Moor but nevertheless, Scott Parker's side extended their solid unbeaten sequence in the Championship to an impressive 16 games in the process.

Portsmouth had seemingly turned a corner in terms of poor results in the Championship in recent weeks as John Mousinho's side had posted back-to-back home wins against Middlesbrough and Stoke City at Fratton Park but the upcoming hosts have once again slid back down the table.

Losses at the hands of West Brom 5-1 away from home and the aforementioned 1-0 loss at home to Millwall does not fill the market with much confidence in the hosts abilities to give Burnley a run for their money here, especially as Portsmouth have been handed six defeats within their last nine games overall.

Burnley still remain in third place in the Championship standings despite having to settle for a point apiece against Leeds United but having now drawn five out of their last six home games at Turf Moor, Burnley may just be suited to hitting the road for this Saturday's trip down to the south coast to take on a struggling Portsmouth outfit.

The Clarets still remain unbeaten at home this season but they have also been involved in eight draws to date which has prevented Scott Parker's side from already breaking into the automatic promotion spots.

Although Burnley have been dealt two defeats on their travels so far this season amidst a total of 15 away games, Burnley have nevertheless picked up nine wins along the way which is the highest haul of wins on the road in the Championship to date as well as winning six out of their last seven outings on the road.

Recent victories away from home at Bristol City, Stoke City, Norwich City, Sheffield United, Blackburn Rovers and Plymouth Argyle, the latter being a 5-0 romp at Home Park, should still give Burnley plenty of confidence in returning to winning ways this weekend.

Goals may be in short supply though at Fratton Park as eight out of Burnley's last 10 away games in the Championship have resulted in Under 2.5 goals in total.
