Luton Town vs Burnley Preview

Monday night's serving of Championship action features this upcoming clash between two of the three relegated sides from last season's Premier League as Luton Town play host to Burnley at Kenilworth Road with both teams eager to produce a winning start to this new second tier campaign as they seek a swift return to the English top flight.

It was always going to be a tough season for Luton Town in the Premier League last term as the Bedfordshire outfit entered the top flight with minimal financial resources compared to that of the bigger and also more established teams in the division and although The Hatters fought for every point, the inevitable eventually happened.

Luton Town's best period of results last season came in the form of three wins on the trot which saw Rob Edwards' side pick up back-to-back wins in the FA Cup against Bolton Wanderers and Everton along with a rousing 4-0 victory over Brighton at home in the Premier League.

However, league wins in the domestic top flight were very few and far between for Luton Town who managed to collect just one further win in the Premier League from the end of January through to the end of the campaign which came in the shape of a 2-1 home win against Bournemouth.

A more level playing field is expected this season however, along with a few goals and indeed, eight of Luton Town's last 10 games in all competitions have resulted in Over 2.5 goals.

Burnley suffered the same fate as that of their upcoming hosts, Luton Town, as The Clarets as they too fell through the Premier League trapdoor and down into the Championship and the Lancashire club have a new face in the managerial hot-seat as Scott Parker has taken over the departed former coach, Vincent Kompany, who has joined Bayern Munich.

A miserable sequence of results in last season's Premier League saw Burnley fail to win any of their 10 league matches from Boxing Day through to early March which also produced no fewer than eight defeats in the process, landing Burnley in desperate trouble down at the foot of the table.

Despite turning their results around in subsequent weeks which saw Burnley lose just once in their eight league matches thereafter and picking up vital wins against Brentford and Sheffield United, three defeats in their final four games resulted in the proverbial nails being hammered down on Burnley's Premier League coffin.

Five of Burnley's last 10 games in all competitions have resulted in Over 2.5 goals and the visitors will be hoping they can make a good start to this new season under their new manager.
