Leeds United's automatic promotion hopes in the Championship went up in smoke following a heavy and comprehensive 4-0 rout at the hands of QPR at Loftus Road last weekend and the Yorkshire club now find themselves three points behind second placed Ipswich Town ahead of this final day of the season fixture against Southampton, while the south coast visitors slumped to a third defeat on the trot last weekend, losing 1-0 at home to Stoke City.

Leeds United had previously seemed to be well on track for automatic promotion as the hosts had put together an excellent 15-match unbeaten sequence in the English second tier which included picking up no fewer than 13 wins in the process with Daniel Farke's side recording eight of these 13 wins on home soil at Elland Road which included notable wins against Norwich City, Leicester City and Hull City respectively.

However, as the season has progressed to the latter stages, Leeds United have experienced something of a major wobble as Daniel Farke's side have managed to capture just one further from their subsequent five games, that being a 4-3 win away from home at Middlesbrough.

Having also slipped to three defeats within these five games with losses to Coventry City, Blackburn Rovers and QPR, the goals market appeals for this upcoming fixture.

Southampton sit in fourth place and six points behind Leeds United so the visitors are now out of the race for automatic promotion but The Saints do have a say in the promotion race as they make their way to Elland Road desperately looking to rekindle their earlier form in the Championship.

A dismal 1-0 loss at home to Stoke City last weekend became Southampton's third league defeat on the trot as the south coast have also suffered a case of latter season nerves which includes previous defeats at the hands of Cardiff City and Leicester City, the latter being a particularly heavy 5-0 thrashing away from home against The Foxes.

Southampton had also put together an impressive unbeaten run of 22 games without defeat in the Championship as Russell Martin's side had also looked in a strong position to achieve automatic promotion but the south coast side have since struggled to maintain that run.

The south coast visitors have managed to capture just a further six wins in their subsequent 15 matches overall which has seen them drop out of automatic promotion reckoning and will now have to take their chances in the play-offs.

Three defeats out of their last four away games with losses incurred at Ipswich Town, Cardiff City and Leicester City suggest Saints may be happy with a point here.
