Hull City were handed a third defeat in four games in the Championship on New Years Day when they lost 3-1 away from home at Sheffield Wednesday with Hull's cause not helped by the fact that they had a player sent off in the first half, while Norwich City drew 1-1 at home with high-flying Southampton at Carrow Road.

Recent defeats to Bristol City, Sunderland and the aforementioned Sheffield Wednesday have resulted in Hull City dropping out of the top six and down into seventh place but only one point separates them from sixth placed Sunderland and the play-off pack ahead of this important Friday night fixture at their MKM Stadium, so The Tigers will be keen to return to winning ways here.

Form and results though this season have seemed to come in waves as Norwich City have been unable to put together any sort of consistent momentum and this is underlined by the fact that the visitors endured a dismal six-match winless run earlier in this campaign from early October through to early November, losing five of these six games.

In addition, results away from home have also been disappointing as Norwich City have managed to capture just two wins from their last 11 outings on the road.
