Lyngby will play host to last season's third placed finishers in the Danish Superliga, Copenhagen, at their Lyngby Stadion on Sunday evening with the home side looking to make a positive start to this new domestic top flight campaign, while Copenhagen will be keen to improve upon third place this time around as they seek to earn a place in the Champions League qualifiers this season.

Lyngby finished in the lower half of the Danish Superliga table in eighth place at the end of the regular season last term which saw them drop down into the Relegation Round group when the division split into two, but some encouraging results towards the end of the second phase proved to be enough for the hosts to avoid being involved in relegation.

Vital wins against Randers, OB and Viborg along with points picked up in draws with Vejle and Hvidovre enabled Lyngby to finish third from bottom in the Relegation Round group bu possessing a four-point cushion above relegated OB and Hvidovre.

However, the bigger picture shows Lyngby had found league wins hard to come by overall during last season's Superliga campaign as the hosts managed to capture just five wins from their last 22 league matches, a poor sequence of results that include 11 defeats.

Copenhagen narrowly missed out on both the Champions League and Europa League qualifying spots at the end of the Championship Round phase by four-point and three-point margins respectively as the visitors also finished the second phase in third place as well.

The visitors therefore have to make do with a Europa Conference League qualifier spot this term but early signs suggest Jacob Neestrup's side will be highly motivated to produce a winning start to this new Superliga campaign when they make their way to the Lyngby Stadion for this season-opener.

Since recording a 2-1 home win against Randers on the final day of the previous season, Copenhagen have picked up three wins in their five pre-season games with victories gained over Silkeborg, WSG Tirol and SonderjyskE along with holding Viktoria Plzen to a 3-3 draw away from home as well.

On the domestic front, Copenhagen won five of their final eight games which included wins on the road at Silkeborg and Brondby in 3-0 and 3-1 victories respectively and although results away from home were a little inconsistent towards the end of last season, Copenhagen have lost only four of their last 18 outings on the road in the Superliga.
