The AT&T Stadium in Texas will host the second game in Group A which features this upcoming clash between Peru and Chile with Peru heading into this opening group clash on the back of a friendly 1-0 win away from home at El Salvador, while Chile registered a comprehensive 3-0 win against Paraguay in an international friendly, so both nations may well fancy their chances of taking points in this encounter.

This upcoming Copa America tournament will serve as a welcome distraction from Peru's disastrous start in their CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying campaign which has seen Jorge Fossati's side fail to win any of their opening six games in the group and picking up just two points from a possible 18 on the table.

Points picked up in draws with Paraguay and Venezuela have been Peru's only highlights in what has otherwise been a poor start amidst four defeats which have landed Peru at the bottom of the South American table.

Defeats at the hands of Brazil 1-0, Chile 2-0, Argentina 2-0 and a 2-0 loss away at Bolivia suggest this upcoming Copa America will be another tough assignment for Fossati's side who have managed to pick up just three wins in their last 11 matches in all competitions, while nine of these 11 games have also resulted in Under 2.5 goals.

Chile have not fared much better than upcoming opponents Peru in the World Cup qualifiers as Ricardo Gareca's side have managed to earn just one win from their opening six games in the South American qualifying section which came in the shape of a 2-0 home win against Peru.

However, losses to the likes of Uruguay, Venezuela and Ecuador suggest Chile aren't about to get an easy ride either in this upcoming Copa America tournament and especially Group A which also consists of the World Cup holders, Argentina, along with Canada who will be out to prove a point.

The bigger picture shows Chile have recorded just six wins from their last 22 internationals in all competitions with five of these wins being achieved in international friendlies, while also slipping to 11 defeats in the process as well, and five of their last 10 games have produced two goals or less.

Previous results in the Copa America have seen Peru pick up just five wins in their last 10 games, while Chile have achieved just three victories in their last games in this competition.

Both Peru and Chile will be keen to make amends for their respective poor starts to their World Cup qualifying campaign and both sides will see this Copa America tournament as an ideal way to re-build some confidence and momentum.
