Colombia vs Panama Preview

Colombia will head into this upcoming quarter-final against Panama no doubt brimming with confidence after not only holding Brazil to a 1-1 draw in their final game of the group stage in this Copa America tournament but they also finished top of Group D by a two-point margin over runners-up, Brazil, while Panama claimed a second place finish in Group C and three points behind the group winners, Uruguay, thanks to a 3-1 win against Bolivia.

Colombia have enjoyed a successful start to this Copa America competition as Nestor Lorenzo's side captured wins against Paraguay 2-1 and Costa Rica 3-0 respectively in the group stage as well as the aforementioned point shared with Brazil.

Los Cafeteros have also produced an encouraging World Cup qualifying campaign to date in the CONMEBOL section as Lorenzo's side still remain unbeaten after six games which includes picking up important wins against Venezuela, Brazil and Paraguay respectively.

The bigger picture shows Colombia have thrived under the guidance of national coach, Nestor Lorenzo, as they are now unbeaten in each of their last 26 matches in all competitions, along with winning 10 of their last 11 games, while seven of these last 11 matches have also resulted in Over 2.5 goals being scored.

Panama were perhaps the surprise package in Group C as they ousted both the host nation, USA, and their CONMEBOL counterparts, Bolivia, in joining the group winners, Uruguay, into the quarter-finals of this Copa America after finishing in second place with six points under their belts.

Despite being dealt a heavy 3-1 loss to the group favourites, Uruguay, in their opening game of the group phase, Thomas Christiansen's side registered vital wins against USA 2-1 and Bolivia 3-1 to haul themselves over the line in terms of qualifying for the knockout stage.

Recent results though overall have been something of a mixed bag for The Canalmen as they have won four but also slipped to four defeats within their last eight games in all competitions; victories against Guyana, Montserrat, USA and Bolivia have been offset by losses incurred against Mexico, Jamaica, Paraguay and Uruguay.

Results in previous Copa America campaigns have also been fairly inconsistent as Panama have won three but lost three of their six games played to date in this competition, while all six of their previous matches at this level have also resulted in Over 2.5 goals as well.
