Both Martinique and Panama won their opening games in Group C so they sit in the top two positions of the four-nation group knowing that a win for either side would virtually guarantee a spot in the knockout round of this season's Gold Cup.

Martinique will be chasing a fourth consecutive win in all competitions when they take on Panama following previous wins against St Lucia, Puerto Rico and El Salvador, the former two wins being in the preliminary qualifying rounds before the competition proper.

These recent wins will have been most welcome for a Martinique outfit who had previously stumbled to 12 games without a win in all competitions which included eight defeats, so the jury is perhaps reluctant to back them on the straight win market here, but goals could certainly figure on Friday night at the Red Bull Arena.

Nine of Martinique's last 15 matches overall have resulted in Over 2.5 goals being scored so the likelihood of further goals on Friday evening looks quite high.

Panama also opened their account in their first game in Group C when they recorded a 2-1 victory over Costa Rica so they will be eager to build upon that promising start against a Martinique outfit whom they thrashed 5-0 in June of last year in the Nations League.

However, Panama haven't exactly been in sparkling form either as they have managed to capture just three wins out of their last 11 matches in all competitions with victories gained over Costa Rica, Nicaragua and of course, Costa Rica.

Four defeats and four draws make up the other eight results during this 11-match period but goals look promising as seven of Panama's last 11 matches have also seen both teams score which makes for a good start when considering the Over/Under goals markets.

In addition, six of Panama's last 10 matches in the Gold Cup have seen Over 2.5 goals scored and the last time these two sides met in this competition back in July 2017, Panama ran out 3-0 winners with the Over 2.5 goals line being achieved.

Martinique and Panama have produced fairly inconsistent results in recent times on the international stage as a whole but although they have been up and down in terms of form, both have shown they are more than capable of scoring and conceding goals, so this looks the safest option for this top of the table clash at the Red Bull Arena in New Jersey on Friday evening.
