Real Madrid remained top of the La Liga table over Christmas thanks to recording a 1-0 win away from home at Alaves which also extended the hosts' unbeaten run in the Spanish top flight to 12 matches overall, while Mallorca also secured all three points by way of a 3-2 home win against Osasuna which extended the visitors' unbeaten run to five games overall which has helped lift them up into 14th place in the La Liga table.

Nine wins within their last 12 league matches has helped Real Madrid into the top spot in the division but only on goal difference ahead of surprise package Girona who find themselves level on points with Real Madrid as they continue to defy their detractors.

Within these nine victories, Real Madrid have achieved five wins on home soil at their Estadio Santiago Bernabéu with wins collected against Las Palmas 2-0, Osasuna 4-0, Valencia 5-1, Granada 2-0 and Villarreal 4-1 as the goals have also been flowing for Carlo Ancelotti's side with five of Real Madrid's eight home games to date in La Liga resulting in Over 2.5 goals as well, so further goals look likely here on Wednesday evening.

Mallorca were also amongst the goals in their last match in La Liga as they recorded a 3-2 home win against Osasuna which not only extended their unbeaten sequence in the domestic top flight to five games but also helped lift Javier Aguirre's side up into 14th place in the La Liga standings as well.

The visitors will therefore also have reason to be upbeat about their prospects here on Wednesday when they make their way to the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu for this upcoming encounter but Mallorca will be under no illusions that this will be a tough challenge indeed for the visitors.

Points picked up in draws with Cadiz, Alaves and Almeria along with a previous 1-0 home win against Sevilla have produced an encouraging spell of results for Mallorca in recent weeks but it should be noted that four of these last five games have been played on home soil at their Estadi Mallorca Son Moix, while results away from home continue to be a major concern for Aguirre's side.

Along with having managed to capture just one away win so far this season, the bigger picture shows Mallorca have achieved just this single win in their previous 13 attempts on the road in La Liga and this could spell further trouble for Mallorca on Wednesday evening.
