Alaves vs Mallorca Preview

Alaves were dealt a fifth defeat on the trot in the Spanish top flight last weekend when Friday night's upcoming hosts suffered a 1-0 loss away from home at Rayo Vallecano, while Mallorca gained a point on the weekend with a 0-0 draw at home with Athletic Bilbao to remain in the hunt for a possible top six finish this term.

Alaves had started this new La Liga campaign in reasonably bright fashion as the hosts had lost just twice in their opening six games of the season while also picking up useful early season wins against the likes of Real Sociedad and Las Palmas.

Mallorca had started their La Liga campaign in slow and sluggish fashion as the visitors managed to capture just one win from their opening five games of the new term, that coming in the shape of a 1-0 win away from home at Leganes but also slipping to losses at the hands of Osasuna and Villarreal respectively.

However, Arrasate's side have since turned things around in the domestic top flight as Mallorca have slipped to just one further loss in their subsequent six league matches which was a 2-1 defeat away from home at Espanyol.

Four wins though within these subsequent six games have helped lift Mallorca up into early contention for a possible European spot for next season as the visitors currently occupy seventh place in the La Liga table thanks to picking up important wins against Real Sociedad, Real Betis, Real Valladolid and Rayo Vallecano respectively.

The bigger picture also seems to favour Mallorca as the visitors have slipped to just three defeats within their previous 15 matches overall in the domestic top flight whilst collecting seven wins in the process as well.

In addition, eight of these 15 matches overall have also seen both teams score, while seven out of Mallorca's last 10 outings on the road have also produced goals at both ends.
