Here is our Kilmarnock v St Johnstone tip and game preview. Based on our detailed analysis of statistics listed below and other factors, we predicted both teams to not score in this game, under 2.5 goals, and a Kilmarnock home win. Our confidence in this tip was high relative to other tips.
Kilmarnock gained an important point with a 0-0 draw away from home at Livingston last weekend in the Scottish top flight which extended the hosts' unbeaten run to three league games while St Johnstone slipped to an understandable 2-0 defeat away at Rangers which put an end to a promising three-match unbeaten run themselves.
Kilmarnock had previously also posted back-to-back wins against Aberdeen 1-0 away from home as well as a most impressive 2-1 home win against the league leaders, Celtic, so it would be fair to say that Killie are in confident mood right now and looking to build upon this recent momentum on Saturday afternoon when they play host to St Johnstone.
After a slow and disappointing start to this Scottish Premiership campaign which yielded just the one win in their opening eight league matches which incidentally came in the form of a 1-0 home win against Rangers but also included three defeats, Kilmarnock have since pulled their socks up and find themselves in fifth place in the Premiership standings.
Just three further defeats in their subsequent 10 matches which also included picking up five wins in the process should give Kilmarnock enough steam to grab a result here at their Rugby Park ground against a poor-travelling St Johnstone outfit.
Onto St Johnstone and the visitors' previous encouraging three-match unbeaten run was brought to a sudden halt when they visited Ibrox to take on Rangers but although St Johnstone collected recent wins against St Mirren and Hibernian, it should be noted that both of these victories were achieved on home soil at their McDiarmid Park.
Interestingly, St Johnstone had made a very similar but even more disappointing start to this Premiership campaign than their hosts, Kilmarnock, as the visitors failed to win any of their opening nine league games, slipping to five defeats in the process and it wasn't until early November that The Saints recorded their first win of the season which came in the shape of a 2-1 home win against Kilmarnock.
Results at home have basically saved St Johnstone from slipping even further down the Premiership table as all four of their wins to date have been recorded at McDiarmid Park but this means results away from home have suffered.
Indeed, St Johnstone have yet to register their first away win of the season, drawing three but losing five of their eight outings to date in addition to failing to score in no fewer than seven of these eight away games as well.
Kilmarnock v St Johnstone Verdict
Given St Johnstone's poor results away from home so far this season, Kilmarnock look the more likely to capture all three points here at Rugby Park.
Therefore, our main bet will be Kilmarnock win @ 1.65
Other side bets worth considering:
Kilmarnock win & Under 2.5 goals @ 3.25
Correct Score: Kilmarnock 1-0 @ 5.50
