Serie A, played Sunday, December 17th, 2023
Here is our Bologna v Roma tip and game preview. Based on our detailed analysis of statistics listed below and other factors, we predicted both teams to not score in this game, under 2.5 goals, and a Bologna home win. Our confidence in this tip was low relative to other tips.
Bologna moved up into fifth place in the Serie A table and now level on points with their upcoming visitors on Sunday evening, Roma, following last weekend's 2-1 win away from home at Salernitana while Roma extended their unbeaten run in the domestic top flight to five games after a 1-1 draw at home with Fiorentina last Sunday.
Bologna now currently occupy the automatic Europa League spot in the Italian top flight table but an even greater prize may be on the cards for Sunday's hosts as they sit level on 25 points apiece with fourth placed Roma ahead of this Sunday's encounter and a win for the hosts would see them leapfrog the visitors and into Champions League contention.
The hosts certainly deserve to at least be part of the Champions League conversation this season as Thiago Motta's side have been handed just two defeats throughout the whole of this season's Serie A campaign and Bologna have proved to be a tough unit to beat both at home and on their travels as well.
An opening day 2-0 loss at home to AC Milan proved to just be the precursor to a solid run of results in Serie A for Bologna who have suffered just one further defeat in their subsequent 14 matches overall, including collecting six wins in the process as well.
Roma occupy fourth spot in the Serie A table but they now have the likes of Bologna, Napoli and Fiorentina all snapping at their heels as the race for a Champions League spot intensifies but Roma have also produced a solid string of results in recent weeks in Serie A which gives them a chance of a result at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara on Sunday evening.
Having made a slow, sluggish but ultimately disappointing start to this season's Serie A campaign which yielded just the single win from their opening six games for Jose Mourinho's side, the visitors have since turned things around and have been dealt just one further loss in their subsequent nine games.
That loss came in the form of a 1-0 defeat away at the Serie A league leaders, Inter Milan, but six wins within this latest period has helped thrust Roma up into contention for a possible Champions League spot for next season although they will be going head-to-head with Bologna on Sunday of course.
Bologna v Roma Verdict
Bologna have produced some impressive results at home so far this season as the hosts head into Sunday's clash on the back of four wins on the trot and indeed, five wins out of their last six home games but goals could be in short supply as four of Bologna's seven home games this term have resulted in Under 2.5 goals.
Each of the previous five meetings between Bologna and Roma have resulted in Under 2.5 goals as well.
Therefore, our main bet will be Under 2.5 goals @ 1.50
Other side bets worth considering:
Bologna win @ 2.37
Correct Score: Bologna 1-0 @ 6.00
