Luton vs Sunderland Preview

Luton Town returned to winning ways in the Championship on the weekend when The Hatters registered a resounding 3-0 victory at home against local rivals Watford, while Sunderland maintained top spot in the Championship table with a 1-0 win away from home at Hull City on Sunday afternoon.

Luton Town had previously failed to win any of their preceding three games in the English second tier which had seen the former Premier League club plummet down the Championship table and heading towards the lower reaches of the division following recent losses away from home at Plymouth Argyle 3-1 and Sheffield United 2-0 respectively.

Results overall upon their return to the Championship for Luton Town have been something of a mixed bag as The Hatters have managed to capture just three wins so far this term which have come in the form of victories against Millwall, Sheffield Wednesday and Watford, but also includes slipping to a total of five defeats already.

Goals could also feature at Kenilworth Road on Wednesday night as well, as six out of Luton Town's 10 league matches to date have resulted in Over 2.5 goals, while on home soil, that ratio becomes 100% as all five of Rob Edwards' side's home games this season have produced three goals or more.

Sunderland will be looking to post back-to-back wins on the road in the Championship on Wednesday night following their weekend 1-0 win away from home at Hull City which maintained The Black Cats' position at the top of the table.

The north-east club have been dealt just two defeats so far this season in the English second tier which came in the shape of losses incurred against Plymouth Argyle 3-2 and Watford 2-1 respectively, both of which were handed out to Regis Le Bris's side on their travels.

However, Sunderland have outweighed these two losses by picking up no fewer than seven victories to date in this season's campaign which has given the visitors a one point cushion over second placed Burnley and a three-point buffer between themselves and third placed Leeds United ahead of these midweek fixtures.

Results away from home though in the Championship have produced mixed returns for Sunderland and although the Black Cats have registered five wins within their last nine outings on the road, the visitors have also slumped to three defeats as well so the goals market may appeal here.

Indeed, three out of Sunderland's last four away games in the Championship have also resulted in Over 2.5 goals.
