Porto vs Arsenal Preview

Porto will be seeking back-to-back wins on Wednesday night when they play host to Arsenal in this 1st leg of their Round of 16 Champions League tie at the Estádio Do Dragão as the Portuguese hosts registered a solid 2-0 home win against Estrela in the domestic Primeira Liga, while Arsenal recorded a comprehensive 5-0 win away from home at Burnley in the Premier League on the weekend.

Despite being handed a disappointing 3-2 defeat away from home at Arouca in their previous game, Porto have lost just once in their last 10 matches in all competitions and the hosts have also collected seven wins in the process which makes them a serious threat to Arsenal's Champions League ambitions.

Earlier in the group stage of this season's competition, Porto had finished runners-up behind the Group H winners, Barcelona, thanks to winning four of their six games and although they lost home and away to Barcelona, Porto picked up home and away wins of their own against Antwerp and Shakhtar Donetsk to send them through to the knockout rounds.

Results on home soil in the Champions League though have been fairly patchy for Porto who have managed to capture five wins out of their last 11 home ties whilst drawing once and losing the other five.

Arsenal picked up a fifth win on the trot in the English Premier League on Saturday when they crushed hapless Burnley 5-0 away from home at Turf Moor which has maintained The Gunners' bid for a possible Premier League title this season.

Previous victories gained over Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, Liverpool and West Ham should give Mikel Arteta's side plenty of confidence and self-belief ahead of this two-legged Champions League tie against their Portuguese counterparts, Porto.

The bigger picture shows Arsenal have lost just three out of their last 14 matches in all competitions and earlier in this competition, Arsenal had finished top of Group B by a four-point margin over runners-up PSV as the north London club were dealt just the single defeat in their six group games and picking up four wins in the process.

Arsenal's single defeat in the group campaign came by a 2-1 loss away from home at Lens but The Gunners avenged that loss by inflicting a resounding 6-0 home win over the French club along with victories against PSV and home and away wins against Sevilla to book their place in the knockout rounds.

Results away from home though in this competition have also been a little sketchy as Arsenal have only managed four wins from their last 10 away ties, drawing twice and losing the other four.
