AFCON, played Sunday, January 21st, 2024
Here is our South Africa v Namibia tip and game preview. Based on our detailed analysis of statistics listed below and other factors, we predicted both teams to not score in this game, under 2.5 goals, and a South Africa home win. Our confidence in this tip was low relative to other tips.
South Africa have a lot of work to do in order to salvage their group campaign in the Africa Cup of Nations after being handed a 2-0 defeat to Mali in their opening game of the group phase and Bafana Bafana must now win their next game against Namibia if they are to remain in contention for a place in the knockout rounds, while Namibia claimed another scalp in the shape of a 1-0 victory over Tunisia in their opening group match.
That opening defeat to Mali in what looks like being the AFCON's ‘Group of Death' became a third game without a win for South Africa in all competitions following a 2-0 defeat away from home at Rwanda in a World Cup qualifier along with a disappointing 0-0 draw at home with Lesotho in an international friendly just before this tournament began.
However, despite their recent hiccups, South Africa will be looking to draw upon a solid sequence of results that were gained prior as Hugo Broos' side had slipped to just one defeat in their preceding 17 games in all competitions which consisted of 10 wins and seven stalemates, so they still stand a decent chance of turning around their fortunes in the group stage.
Namibia's recent resurgence culminated in an excellent 1-0 win against heavily fancied Tunisia in their opening game in Group E which followed a previous 2-0 win away from home at Sao Tome e Principe in a World Cup qualifier along with a creditable 0-0 draw away at Ghana in an international friendly a few days before the start of this tournament.
Having got themselves off to a promising start, Namibia national coach, Collin Benjamin, will be demanding more from his players again in this upcoming clash with South Africa, knowing even a point would place them in a good position before facing Mali in their final game of the group phase.
However, this may be easier said than done as Namibia had previously managed to capture just the one win from their preceding nine games overall in all competitions so the jury still remains out as to whether they can hold their own against the South Africa challenge on Sunday night.
South Africa v Namibia Verdict
Previous recent results in the AFCON finals have been largely disappointing from South Africa's perspective as they have registered just three wins from their previous 21 games overall at this level but although they have slipped to a total of 12 defeats within this period, their one glimmer of hope lies in the fact that they beat Namibia 1-0 in their last meeting in AFCON back in 2019 and a similar result could unfold here on Sunday night.
Therefore, our main bet will be South Africa win @ 1.95
Other side bets worth considering:
South Africa win & Under 2.5 goals @ 3.40
Correct Score: South Africa 1-0 @ 5.50
