3.25 Handicap Chase (3m 1f)

Chapoturgeon is 3/1 favourite after an excellent 2nd place at Cheltenham. Chapoturgeon stepped up to this distance well at Cheltenham, and although largely unproven at this distance, many are backing Chapoturgeon to win this.

Marufo is 5/1 and a consistent 10 year old. Marufo showed well at Newbury in March, but with a win rate of only 22% it is difficult to back Marufo to win here at only 5/1. Battle Group is 13/2 and performed well at Cheltenham, finishing 4th in a shorter distance race. Battle Group has done well at the shorter distances, but stepped down from this distance so should probably be priced higher in our opinion.

Saint Are is 10/1. Saint Are showed poorly at Cheltenham and again is not probably up to a race of this distance. Ackertac is also 10/1. Again, Ackertac may not be up to this distance, but is a consistent place bet, so may be worth an each way here.

Cannington Brook is 12/1. Cannington Brook did not show well at Cheltenham and tends to prefer the heavy going. Perhaps a place bet is worthwhile if the going suits.

On Borrowed Wings is also 12/1. On Borrowed Wings has a 25% win rate, and looks better than other runners at this price, or lower. In our opinion On Borrowed Wings is well worth a place here after two good performances at Fakenham and Newbury of late.

Tullamore Dew, Noland, Brackloon High and My Boy Paddy are all 14/1. Tullamore Dew is inconsistent and not in great form. Noland too is erratic, but prefers the soft going, so given the conditions are correct might be worth an outside place bet. Despite only finishing 12th at Cheltenham, Brackloon High is a decent horse. With a 45% career win rate Brackloon High is probably worth a place bet here, even if Brackloon High is new to this distance. My Boy Paddy has a 45% win rate, but do not be fooled by this, as most of the wins have come on heavy ground. Well worth a bet though if it rains!

There are no real stand out favourites in this race in our opinion, so it might be worth looking down the field for a place bet.

WinDrawWin Tips: Battle Group to win. Ackertac and Brackloon High to place.
