Darlan leads the betting at 6/4 after a great run at Cheltenham, finishing 2nd. Darlan is an excellent prospect and has a 67% career win rate. Darlan also has an excellent record under AP McCoy, who will be riding Darlan in this race.
Prospect Wells is 10/3. Prospect Wells was 5th at Cheltenham, and although only has a career win rate of 19%, is in form, and well respected in the betting. However, Prospect Wells, although consistent, has not won enough races to warrant odds as low as this in our opinion. Perhaps a place bet is better value on Prospect Wells.
Captain Conan is 7/1. Captain Conan has run well at this distance, however prefers the soft going, which is unlikely at Aintree this year. Oscara Dara is 8/1 and again likes the soft going. Oscara Dara has not been run much this year, winning at Sandown in March, but no races since, so is a bit of an unknown here.
Vulcanite is 10/1. Vulcanite does not have the experience that other runners have in this race, and is a little unpredictable. Best avoided in our opinion.
Right Step is 14/1 and won at Kempton Park in March. However Right Step does not have a great record at all, so any speculative punt on Right Step here should really only be for the place.
Theatre Guide is 14/1 and Agent Archie 16/1. Theatre Guide is an inexperienced and largely unkown runner but did win at Wincanton in February. Agent Archie is again inexperienced, and this race may be a step up too far this time
WinDrawWin Tips: Darlan to win. Right Step to place.
