The first race of the Grand National meet sees the very impressive Big Bucks lead the field at short odds of 1/5. It is really difficult to see any other horse winning this race other than Big Bucks after such an impressive performance at Cheltenham. Big Bucks is a powerful horse and barely looked like trying too hard at Cheltenham. If you do not fancy odds as low as 1/5 then it is probably better to avoid trying to back a winner in this race and going for a place.
Smad Place is the nearest contender to Big Bucks at 11/2. Smad Place is a promising 5 year old and comes into this race after finishing 3rd at Cheltenham in the World Hurdle behind Big Bucks. An impressive performance and therefore making Smad Place deserved second favourite here. Cheltenham was Smad Place's first step up to this distance, so perhaps at only Evens Smad Place is a short price and low value.
Poungach and Tidal Bay are 4/1 and 5/1 respectively. Poungach is again stepping up to this distance, and has not been run since January. There must be good money going onto Poungach to deserve this price, so even as an unknown Poungach should be respected. Tidal Bay has really drifted on the betting exchanges so, in our opinion, does not have much of chance at all here in a field with two excellent runners leading the odds.
WinDrawWin Tips: Big Bucks to win. Smad Place to place.
